The Choreography of Care

What is the shape of care? What are the movements of caregiving? How do we find—and when and where do we lose—meaning in the rhythms of our lives? In our June Community of Practice workshop, we will watch a brief excerpt of a dance piece created by Dr. Sarah Kim and explore these questions together. We will discuss, write reflectively, and be given the chance to share that writing if we choose. Together, we will practice our own choreography across our shared Zoom screens.
Facilitators
Lisa Erdman is a researcher, artist, and educator. Her multimedia art and research have been exhibited and published internationally in journals and galleries including Performing Ethos: International Journal of Ethics in Theatre & Performance (UK), Ars Medica: The Journal of Medicine, the Arts and Humanities (Canada), The Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Helsinki), and The Kitchen Performance Space (New York). Lisa’s artwork and research lies at the intersection of socially engaged performance, clinical communication, and one’s relationship to medical authority. This July, Lisa begins a new role as postdoctoral scholar at the Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Lisa holds an M.F.A from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and a Doctorate in Art and Media from Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. For more information: lisaerdman.net
Alexis Rehrmann is a writer and editor whose print and digital work have appeared in publications including the New York Times, PDXParent, Portland Monthly Magazine, and the Intima Journal of Narrative Medicine. A board member of the Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative and a staff member at the Lewis & Clark College Center for Community and Global Health, Alexis has pursued the connection between story and healing throughout her creative life. She holds a B.F.A from N.Y.U and a Narrative Medicine certification from Columbia University.
