Jazz and Interprofessional Practice: Stories of Two Piano Trios

Medicine at its best, like jazz, is an improvisational endeavor, requiring its practitioners to both work within accepted and evidence-based standards, and to deviate from those standards when the situation and context require. This becomes even more complex when multiple different practitioners with varied backgrounds are involved. In this session, we will look at interprofessionalism in jazz, examining a watershed moment in its history when interprofessionalism took on new meaning, and seek lessons learned for today’s medical practice. This workshop is for providers, healthcare collaborators, caregivers and patients – anyone who has found themselves (intentionally or unintentionally) “riffing” in a healthcare setting!
