Books We Turn to During Hard Times

In the 1990’s Portland-based nonprofit The Hambleton Project created a library for lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered individuals with cancer to help them navigate the healthcare system and the personal impact of cancer on their lives. For November’s Community of Practice, we will use archival research from that project to examine different “narratives of medicine” used. What kind of narratives still persist today? What unique perspectives can different literary genres offer to someone who is struggling? Participants are encouraged to bring books (of any genre) that have been helpful to them during difficult times to the discussion.
