Our focus is narrative medicine, that is, approaching illness and wellness with narrative competence—the ability to listen, absorb, and be moved to action by stories of illness and wellness. Workshop facilitators create and lead a one-time workshop focused on a specific skill that will expand each participant’s narrative medicine practice. Facilitators engage participants in reading, discussion, writing, creating, and sharing. Our themes, approaches, points of view and backgrounds all vary, but the general format remains the same:

Brief Introductions

Workshop (90 minutes)
Hands on activity, community participation
Writing prompt/time to write
Discussion in large group, pairs, small groups
Wrap up with a “Try This” activity
