The Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative began in 2015 when founding members, Elizabeth Lahti and April Brenneman, discovered a shared vision: bringing health care providers and patients together to better understand, appreciate and collaborate in health and illness through narrative.
The Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative expanded with a goal to foster greater interprofessional and interpersonal communication, understanding and collaboration. In 2016 we held our first weekend long conference. In 2017 we developed a monthly series of workshops, and hosted another conference. In 2018 we launched a monthly Community of Practice, and became a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit. In 2019 we expanded to Seattle, and launched a quarterly live storytelling event called The Interstitium in Portland and Seattle.
The Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative mission is to bring health care professionals, patients, caregivers, students, academics, and artists together, to build, sustain and promote a regional narrative medicine community.
